Notice of Race

Location:                    Tawas Bay, Lake Huron

Course:                       One race on an approximately 7 mile triangular course set within  Tawas Bay for the Main and Jib Fleet, with an added windward/leeward leg for the Spinnaker Fleets. The direction and placement of marks will be determined based on the wind direction on race day.

Start:                           The first warning signal will be at 1400 hours.

Skippers Meeting:     1230 hours at Bikini’s, Tawas Holiday Inn.

Fleets:                         Two Spinnaker Fleets (split at PHRF=91), one Main and Jib Fleet, sailing under PHRF rating system.

Awards:                      Awards to yachts placing first through third in each fleet. LHYA flags will be awarded to the highest placing LHYA member of each fleet.

Rules:                         The race will be governed by The Rules of Sailing.

Dockage:                    Available at East Tawas State Dock (approximately 150 slips and protected mooring) and at the Tawas Bay Yacht Club to the extent space is available. See www.tbyc.net for State Dock link.

Social Events:            Awards ceremony at approximately 1930 hours at Tawas Bay Yacht Club. Dinner will be available in the TBYC dining room. The bar will be open upon completion of racing.

Entry Fee:                  Entry fee is $30 or $25 for U.S. Sailing members (valid membership card required). Late registration after skippers meeting $35. Make checks payable to Tawas Bay Yacht Club.

Registration:              Mail registration to Frank Fitus, 5501 Rivers Edge Drive, Commerce Twp Mi. 48382 by June 23rd, or register in person at Bikini’s June 21st from 1200 hours until Skipper's Meeting.

I recognize that PHRF’s sole purpose in rating a boat is to estimate the relative speed between boats, and to assign handicaps accordingly.  I understand that the assignment of a rating for my boat by PHRF does not in any way constitute a representation or warranty by PHRF that my boat is designed, maintained, equipped, crewed, rigged, or operated in a manner that is safe and seaworthy for the races I may enter using the handicap. I recognize that it is my responsibility for the safety of my boat and crew in the wind, water and other environmental circumstances encountered while using the boat.

 

In consideration of being granted a rating by PHRF, and in your acceptance of my race application, and recognizing that PHRF neither inspects nor measurers boats prior to issuing handicaps, I hereby affirm that I have examined all available information relating to the design and equipment of my boat and certify that is seaworthy and meets all other requirements of PHRF bylaws, USSA and USCG regulations, and all other regulations relating to the race I enter.  I acknowledge that it shall be the sole responsibility of the skipper and crew of the boat to determine whether or not to start, continue or finish a race.  The undersigned, for the total crew and guests and for the representative, executors, heirs, successors and assigns, in consideration of being permitted to enter the scheduled race, and being fully knowledgeable of risks associated with the participation in these regattas, and do for myself, my personal representatives, heirs, assigns, guests, and crew, hereby wave all claims as may occur to me or to them against any and all organizations or persons involved in the sponsorship or organization of this event, including but not limited to the Tawas Bay Yacht Club, officers, directors, employees, agents, and race committee, arising out of participation of the above yacht at any event, or arising from any recent activities sponsored or governed by said clubs and organizations. The owner or captain of each boat shall be fully responsible for the action and safety of the crew and guests, and it shall be the responsibility of each skipper to advise the crew and guests of the comments of this agreement.

Race Instructions

 

 

Rules:                         Governed by U.S. Sailing Racing Rules except as announced by race committee at skippers meeting.

Monitor:                     All boats should monitor Channel 72 during the race for course changes or delays as determined by the Race Committee.

Protest:                       Protesting boat must fly flag ASAP after infraction, notify race committee upon completion of race and written protest to race committee within one hour after docking.

Fleets:                         Two Spinnaker Fleets, one Main and Jib Fleet. Fleet assignments and identifying flags will be given at the Skipper's Meeting, 1230 hours at Bikini's, East Tawas Holiday Inn. Tentative start times (GPS time) as follows:

                                    1st Fleet start of sequence: 1400 hours - 10 MINUTE SIGNAL

                                    1405 - 5 MINUTE SIGNAL

                                    1410 - START OF RACE - FLEET 1

                                    2nd Fleet start of sequence 1410 - 10 MINUTE SIGNAL

                                    1415 - 5 MINUTE SIGNAL

                                    1420 - START OF RACE - FLEET 2

                                    3rd Fleet start of sequence 1420 - 10 MINUTE SIGNAL

                                    1425 - 5 MINUTE SIGNAL

Responsibility:           The safety of crew members and decisions regarding safety equipment, starting or continuing a race are the sole responsibility of the skipper of each boat. TBYC recommends the use of PFD'S by all participants.
